Tendering in Port
In some ports, due to size restrictions or berth availability, cruise ships may not dock, but instead anchor in the harbor. This is called Tendering to Shore. Tenders are used to transfer passengers back and forth between the port and the ship at no charge. If you have any physical limitations, tendering may prove to be challenging and should be a consideration in the selection of your vacation itinerary and ship. I only mention this because I have a member of my family who has MS. While on the ship, the hallways and gangways were wide enough to accommodate her wheelchair. But if she wanted to go to shore on a tender, I don't think it would have been possible. Luckily, I had been to many of the ports that we visited so I was able to stay on board with her so she didn't feel so left out.
