I can understand that many people nowadays use the Internet for just about anything including booking their travel. That is all well and good but if you know someone who sells travel, please utilize their services. It doesn’t cost you anymore to use their services but it can save you money. Let me relate a story to you. I have a client who thought that I was ripping them off because my quote on my website showed all of the additional charges like port charges and government fees. The cruise lines’ website does not break down the port charges and the cabin fee. So it looks like I was charging more. Everybody gets charged port charges and government fees no matter who they book through. In their haste to ‘save’ money, they booked through the cruise lines. Well guess what? Being a travel agent allows me to offer lower rates on cabins than the cruise lines can. How you ask? By being part of a very large travel conglomerate, we can negotiate for lower pricing which we pass on to the clients. So yes they were wise to check out the prices on-line. But what they failed to do was compare the final cost between my company and the cruise line. If they had, they would have seen that I saved them hundreds of dollars. But boy! Did they show me! They saved on the commission. NOT!
