Holland America goes Vegan

As per Donna Tunney in 'Travel Weekly' Holland America Line has introduced a vegetarian menu, as well as 30 new vegetarian dishes to the main dining room menus. HAL said that its master chef, Rudi Sodamin, has designed a 22-dish vegetarian and vegan menu that includes appetizers, salads, soups and main entrees. It is available upon request at no extra cost for lunch and dinner in the main dining room aboard all 15 HAL ships. "Many more people are choosing a vegetarian culinary experience, yet the options can be limited," said Richard Meadows, HAL's executive vice president of marketing, sales and guest programs. "By offering a complete vegetarian-only menu and the largest vegetarian selection at sea, we are ensuring that all guests can take part in an exceptional dining experience while cruising with Holland America Line.”
I think that this is a big step in the right direction. Even though the menus on cruise ships are incredibly diverse sometimes I am still wanting food that is lighter. You tend to eat so much more than you usually would while cruising. So to have an option of a vegetarian meal that hopefully aren't as heavy as the other offerings, is a welcome change. I stick to my exercise routine while on board but that often isn't enough because of the overeating I do. You really can't help it either! The food is always so tempting and delicious. While I could never become a full fledged vegetarian I do understand the need to cut back on eating meat. Good job Holland America!
